The Senior Test Specialist provides hands on design and technical support in the development, assembly, and test of engineering prototype and production products, and has general experience with military weapons to enable successful program execution. Operates under general supervision by management and by project engineers when applying the principles, concepts, and practices of their discipline.

Major Position Responsibilities

The Senior Test Specialist is responsible for:

  • Designing, building and maintaining test equipment to support prototype and/or production hardware
  • Providing technical support on assigned test activities, which may include test equipment design, build, installation, operation, and facility equipment maintenance.
  • Supporting engineering, development and production acceptance tests, including contributing to test plans, instrumentation plans, data reduction, and test reports
  • Providing input on instrumentation techniques
  • Providing technical support on assigned test activities, to include test equipment design, build, installation and operation
  • Facility lead oversight
  • Promoting and maintaining safety
  • Participating in failure analysis investigations, including formal root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Maintaining, operating, servicing, and repairing assigned test equipment
  • Supporting field maintenance & customer support activities including travel to CONUS & OCONUS locations

Basic Qualifications

The Senior Test Specialist will demonstrate proficiency in test instrumentation, basic R&D machining and cable build. Possess or capable of rapidly developing the following skills and knowledge areas:

  • Fundamental knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing needed to read and interpret product definition
  • Knowledge of instrumentation methods to include strain gaging, pressure transducers, accelerometers, LVDT, and others as assigned
  • Mechanical and/or electrical fundamentals needed to make decisions that ensure safe and reliable operation of products
  • Hands on capabilities to assemble and disassemble test equipment, prototype and production hardware using tools
  • Basic knowledge of machining techniques (lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc.)
  • Knowledge of safe handling of ammunition and explosives
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and instrumentation control
  • Product knowledge sufficient to conduct and evaluate test activities
  • Failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action tools and techniques needed to quickly and efficiently solve problems
  • Use of computer aided engineering tools to the level of reviewing drawings
  • Use of Microsoft Office tools
  • Use of LabVIEW visual programming software
  • Capable of obtaining BATFE employee possessor license

Experience:  Four years of relevant experience.

Required Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent in applicable engineering/technical discipline.
