A world class aerospace defense contractor conveniently located between Atlanta and Birmingham seeks a qualified Senior Material Planner. Major Position Responsibilities

Job Summary:  Provides leadership to the assigned Strategic Business Unit (SBU) by planning, preparing, and issuing material availability schedules to meet production requirements.


Essential Duties:

  • Manages materials for 10-20 separate programs that utilize a complex BOM.
  • Ability to work outside of an MRP system.
    • Expert level in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to lead team in implementation of MRP within current system (EPICOR) and future-state system (IFS)
  • Able to facilitate root cause analysis and present to a group of peers recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyzes the build plan to identify material challenges.
    • Purchased Raw Material, Components, and Assemblies
    • Manage scheduling between Business Unit and sub-contract suppliers (outside processing)
    • Define material requirements (batch sizes, quantities, need dates) for sub-component manufacturing within the Business Unit (manufacture to print for top level Assemblies)
  • Manages all material requirements for plant and interact with production planners, operations, quality, and supply chain procurement on a daily basis
  • Reviews all NOAs (Notice of Awards) and creates material requisitions based on current inventory levels in stores, WIP, scrap rates, and lead times.
  • Seeks out and initiates cost reductions (increase inventory turns, inventory reduction, lead time reduction).
  • Subject Matter Expert in Lean Manufacturing and “pull systems” order management
    • Kanban Kitting
    • VLM (Visual Line Side Management)/POU (Point of Use Delivery)
    • Material Tracking and Data Management of material KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in Business, Supply Chain Management, Technical Applications

 Preferred: MBA, Lean Six Sigma Methodologies, APICS Certification


Experience Required:

  • 8 or more years of applicable experience.
  • Experience in leading an MRP implementation (supply side)
  • Experience in a DoD contract environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Expert in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • EPICOR/IFS MRP experience preferred
