Job Summary

Protects the organization's employees, properties and all items of value on premises from any harm or danger | Develops and/or follows fire and security policies and procedures that comply with government guidelines and standards | Conducts investigations to protect organization assets | Responds to contingency events, including bomb threats, explosions, fires, sabotage and severe weather conditions through on-site security force or with the assistance of government law enforcement agencies

Essential Functions

  • Supports with security and guards buildings, grounds, materials, work sites, or other venues.
  • Monitors access controls and security systems and responds to alarms, reports of issues, or requests for assistance.
  • Follows required gate-keeping procedures such as verifying visitor credentials, conducting inspections, or preparing paperwork or activity logs.
  • Supports emergency response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies to protect people, property, and the environment.
  • Assists firefighting teams to control and extinguish fires and safely manage hazardous materials.
  • Uses and operates firefighting tools, equipment and apparatus as effectively and safely as possible.
  • Assists with fire system inspection, testing and maintenance.
  • Prepares post-incident reports as required.
  • Must carry a state-licensed firearm.

Additional Responsibilities

Upon completion of initial training as a Fire and Security Technician you are required to respond to all emergencies including security, fire, confined space rescue, hazmat & medical. As well as perform fire system inspection, testing and maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience: Attending a Vocational / Technical School or internal training program OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & Experience or Skillset; Attending a Vocational / Technical School or internal training program OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & Experience or Skillset;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Ability to work as part of a team. Decision-making skills. Judgement. Detail oriented. Attentiveness. Emergency Management. Heavy Equipment Operation. Fire Control. Public Safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.
