Job Summary

Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations. Responsibilities are within the Environmental Health and safety function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines. Ensures that environmental safety and industrial health programs are consistently implemented and maintained, promoting regulatory compliance and a safe, responsible work environment aligned with environmental, safety, and health policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Manages the development of policies and programs meant to mitigate organizational impact on the environment or protect employees from health and safety risks found in the organization.
  • Develops, implements, and manages programs meant to protect employee health and safety, or promote environmental compliance.
  • Establishes guidelines governing the collection and maintenance of employee training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation.
  • Audits facilities or processes to identify weaknesses or risks and proactively develops and implements corrective actions; ensures appropriate investigation of and response to accidents or injuries.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, or local statues or regulations including OSHA.
  • Administers departmental policies and procedures, evaluates results and performance, and assists with the development of new or modified budgets, strategic plans, or policies.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.

Accident Investigations, RCCA Project Mgt. Workers Compensation, Industrial Hygiene, Fall Protection, Fire Prevention Systems, Regulated Substances, Hazardous Waste, 1st Aid/CPR, Incident Commander Material Handling, Power Actuated Tools, Industrial Powered Vehicles, PPE Assessments 

Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Environmental Health and Safety or related degree preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Safety best practices. Safety communications. Safety inspections. Safety investigations. Safety policies and procedures. Safety training. Inspection documentation.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
