Job Summary-

Salary for this position is $30.60/hr.

Calibrates and verifies the accuracy of precision measuring instruments such as gages, tooling, etc. for conformance to specifications on a scheduled basis. Uses sophisticated calibration equipment capable of measuring measurement instruments and standards such as electronic gages, master gage blocks, tool-makers scopes, digital height checks, super micrometers, sine plates, profilometers, surface plates, optical comparators, electro limit gages, master standards, etc. Works in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment that insures a standard measuring temperature of 68°-72° and a humidity of 40-50%. Must be aware of temperature equalization between standard, workpiece, and instrument and thermal expansion effects of heat radiation from lights, heating components, sunlight, humans, impinging drafts of air, manual handling, etc.

Responsibilities-

Follows established company policies, procedures, directives, military specifications, and dimensional metrology disciplines. Calibrates gages following scheduled procedures that identify each item, inspection frequency, date inspected, inspection due date, inspector, etc. Documents inspection data. Must be aware of varying inspection time cycles on some types of gages depending on frequency of use and gage style. May use mobile inspection carts that contain master measuring systems and perform frequent on-the-spot checking of working gages thru-out the plant to insure gauging reliability and quality control.

May disassemble inaccurate or worn gages and measuring tool such as air gages, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc. Inspects parts for wear, warpage, corrosion or other defects. Adjusts stops, nuts, screws, levers, etc. to specified settings. Inspects accuracy of new or reworked tools and gages for conformance to specifications prior to production release.

May compute unspecified dimensions, angles, radii, and other data using shop mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry.

Qualifications-

Must be thoroughly familiar with American national Standard Engineering Drawings and related practices associated with inspection of dimensions and tolerances (ANSI Y14.5). Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering drawings, process directives, etc. Performs inspections using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing specification. Interprets geometric characteristics and symbols and performs inspections on items to measure and record data such as flatness, straightness, circularity, cylindricality, perpendicularity, angularity, parallelism, circular runout, total runout, concentricity, symmetry, etc. Develops gauging set-up and surface plate layout procedures as required. Works to tolerances to ten millionths of an inch (.000010). Must be knowledgeable of the metric system of measurement. Converts from decimals to metrics and vice-versa.

Must have a sense of precision and a constant awareness of the influence of cleanliness, rigidity, temperature, set-up, air films, and other factors that affect gauging tolerances. Must be capable of performing all tasks and duties of inspector #1. Follows verbal instructions. Practices safety and good housekeeping policies and procedures.

Performs other duties and tasks as required by supervision.
