Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider military weapon systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Procurement Specialist I to join our Saco, ME team. The Procurement Specialist I:  Negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers and prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services and supplies for customer-related business processes or for internal use as a generalist or in a combination of Purchasing Disciplines

 

The ideal candidate must possess strong communication skills both written and orally, be self-motivated, and have the ability to manage their time effectively.  The candidate will be familiar with procurement and manufacturing principles. The candidate will work in a fast paced environment and liaison between all supply chain functions, the Saco operations team, and other departments. 

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes sourcing strategy, evaluates product offerings, recommends suppliers, and negotiates contracts for assigned categories or departments.
  • Gathers business requirements and identifies and pre-qualifies potential suppliers.
  • Develops and distributes RFPs/RFQs and collects bids or other information.
  • Evaluates proposals/quotes based on offering quality, cost, or other criteria and recommends suppliers that are best suited to meet the organization's requirements.
  • Works with selected suppliers to develop mutually acceptable contractual agreements.
  • May oversee tactical purchasing operations, such as the issuance of purchase orders or the payment of invoices.
  • Ensures that all procurement activities comply with internal policies and external regulations.

Basic Qualifications

Required Education:  Associates Degree and/or Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred Education:  Bachelor's Degree

Discipline/Major:  Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related degree

 

Years of Experience:  0-3 years of relevant experience

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   Ability to work as part of a team. Decision-making skills. Oral and written communication skills. Analytical thinking skills. Detail oriented. Ability to meet deadlines. Negotiation Skills.

 

Travel Requirements:  No or very little travel likely.
