An intern position in the Mechanical Design Engineering Group at General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems offers the opportunity to be continually challenged and immersed in a design and test environment. Working with mechanical design engineers will give you the time to develop your skills working on real products in a collaborative environment. We are focused on supporting the warfighter through the development and manufacture of advanced rotary cannons, high speed ammunition handling systems, control electronics, gun turrets, and test equipment. Our products can be found within every U.S. military branch and within allied armed forces around the world.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Provides support to technical employees working in an organizational function related to the Interns area of study.
  • Assists with technical tasks and project support.
  • Supports equipment set up and monitors tests and experiments.
  • Observes results, collects data, and compiles summaries and reports.
  • Learns technical processes and procedures.
  • Job shadows other more experienced professionals and or support staff.
  • May also support the documentation

Basic Qualifications

Required Education:  Must be currently enrolled in related Technical courses or be within 6 months of graduation

Desired Education/Discipline:  The candidate shall have completed the equivalent of 4 semesters or more and attending school for a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Interest in hands-on mechanical design, integration, and test with the desire to expand experience with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze problems; organize details; develop practical solutions; and clearly document and communicate results.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to accomplish assigned tasks on time while supporting more than one project at a time.
