General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Summer Continuous Improvement Intern to join in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • 5s Kaizen Events – Projects involved in improving workplace organization and visual management throughout  NEPA.  Provide input, assistance, and coordination to execution of these events.
  • Value Stream Mapping – Projects involved with data collection and analysis of entire product class from raw material to shipment.   Gather data including detailed time/motion studies, product flow detail, and various output/cycle calculations.
  • Standard Work Kaizen Events – Projects involved in improving and standardizing flow and output within a work area.  Gather valuable work data/times, help in testing different cell layouts or work content changes, all with the aim of driving improved output with consistent quality.
  • Other Root Cause Corrective Action / Problem solving efforts – Support these efforts with data collection and analysis while learning structured problem solving.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolledinto a 2-4 year accredited college or university 
  • Completed at a minimum their sophomore year in college majoring in Engineering (Manufacturing and Industrial preferred, but not required)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a diverse employee population are essential
  • Must demonstrate organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, using discretion and independent judgement
