Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) is looking for an experienced Sr. Product Development Engineer to join our Lincoln, NE organization. We are expanding rapidly and looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help support and shape this organization as we grow. 

 

GD-OTS provides reliable and affordable composite products to the defense and commercial aerospace markets. With more than 60 years of expertise, GD-OTS designs, develops, manufactures, and tests a full range of composite missile and space structures, including rocket motors, pressure vessels, launch tubes and fuel tanks.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Using engineering techniques, helps to design, maintain, or improve new or existing products and/or components.
  • Designs, models, and tests prototypes for products. Conducts research and creates design proposals for projects.
  • Establishes design briefs.
  • Creates concepts, performance, and production criteria. Identifies and selects materials needed for production.
  • Makes samples of working models for demonstration.
  • Plans marketing initiatives for product.
  • Negotiates appropriate production processes.
  • Improves usability of an item.
  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts.
  • May also produce final hand drawings, specifications, create parts lists or costs involved in production.

Manager Specific Requests:

  • Design and analysis of filament wound composite structures.
    • Utilizes mechanics of composite materials along with other engineering techniques in the design of composite products.
    • Performs detailed structural analysis utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Generation and presentation of detailed design reviews.
  • Considers design for manufacturability in product design.
  • Provides technical support for bid and proposal efforts.
  • Technical report writing to document design and analysis reports, test reports, etc.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) to generate product definition.
  • Utilizes Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to define product requirements.

 

Basic Qualifications

Required: Associate's Degree in Engineering & 5-7 years experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred. 

Technical Skills: Oral and written communications skills. Vision. Creativity. Ability to meet deadlines. Planning skills.

 

Manager Specific Requests:

Desired skills: Understanding of mechanics of composite materials. Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical APDL, ANSYS Workbench, CREO Parametric.
