Major Position Responsibilities

SUMMARY: Welds all types of commonly used metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes and thicknesses, including dissimilar metals such as copper to steel. Operates various hand-welding, flame-cutting, hand-soldering or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products. May set up, operate and/or tend to robots that weld, braze, solder or heat treat metal products, components or assemblies 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and other weldable material to form permanent bonds by applying appropriate welding techniques.  
  • Prepares the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. 
  • Welds metal components and parts using specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches.  
  • Uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals.  
  • Plans work by interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics 
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.

  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines

Basic Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree
  • Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education and Experience
  • Preferred Discpline/Major: Associate's Degree with Technical degree or equivalent training and experience
  • 2-4 years prior experience in a similar position
