Directs and coordinates fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, tools, engines and systems | Ensures that quality levels and industry standards are maintained or improved in the manufacturing process | Oversees installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water and steam systems | Evaluates mechanical products to determine their cost effectiveness and efficiency | May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions

 

Ideal candidate will have experience and capability in the following areas:

 

  • Mechanical design using CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Structural and thermal analysis using both classical (i.e. hand calculation) methods as well as software tools (ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation preferred)
  • Finite Element Analysis including static, transient, linear, and non-linear methods
  • Tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing IAW ASME Y14.5M
  • Material selection, to include experience with coating/plating selection for metallic components
  • Technical Data Package review and drawing creation
  • Risk management methodology
  • Technical document generation, to include test plans, test reports, analysis reports, slide presentations, and similar
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Experience in ordnance test methodology a definite plus, to include as many of the following as possible: flash x-ray radiography, JTCG/ME JMEM fragmentation arena testing, blast test setup and execution, high-speed digital video collection and processing, full fragment recovery testing, STANAG-compliant insensitive munitions testing (fragment impact, bullet impact, slow cook-off, fast cook-off, shaped charge jet impact, sympathetic reaction), as well as demonstrated experience generating new and novel test approaches and fixtures to gather required data.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

Basic Qualifications

Required Education:  Associate's Degree and 2-4 years in a relevant function

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

Discipline/Major:      Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering related degree required
