The Sr Principal Automation Engineer: Develops, designs, builds and tests robotic platforms from prototype through product commercialization. Creates an integrated autonomous interface, mobility, communication, and human-robot interaction. Works with cross-functional teams to understand opportunities for robotic applications.
Required Education: Associates Degree
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Major: General Engineering or specialized Engineering degree required
Years of Experience: 10-12 years of experience in automation engineering or related field.
Skills, certifications, abilities and attributes:
Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI development, robotics, CAD software, and simulation tools.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Develop and implement automated systems for use in diverse manufacturing and production environments.
- Design control systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to automate specific tasks.
- Write and debug software programs for automated machinery and systems.
- Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens and dashboards for monitoring and controlling processes.
- Program robotics and other automation hardware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with automated systems.
- Oversee the installation of automation systems and machinery.
- Ensure that automated systems are integrated effectively with existing processes.
- Provide technical support during the installation and start-up phases.
- Monitor and maintain automated systems to ensure they function properly over time.
- Implement upgrades and improvements to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Train operators and other staff on the proper use and maintenance of automated systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and production managers.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored automation solutions.
- Ensure all automated systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Implement safety protocols and procedures to protect workers and equipment.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
