Summary: 

 

Designs, validates and brings to market new products that will directly impact business results utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems | Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs; evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety | Participates in cross-functional teams to assess technical needs and feasibility | Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans | Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability | Creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials | May also model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings, schematic’s or angle views to review functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems and machines

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Using engineering techniques, helps to design, maintain, or improve new or existing products and/or components. 
  • Designs, models, and tests prototypes for products. Conducts research and creates design proposals for projects.  
  • Establishes design briefs.  
  • Creates concepts, performance, and production criteria. Identifies and selects materials needed for production.  
  • Makes samples of working models for demonstration.  
  • Plans marketing initiatives for product.  
  • Negotiates appropriate production processes.  
  • Improves usability of an item.  
  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts. 
  • May also produce final hand drawings, specifications, create parts lists or costs involved in production.  

Basic Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree Engineering Design or other Engineering related degree required
  • 3-5 years experience in a relevant function 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Design or other Engineering related degree
