Overview

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider of ordnance, weapons and tactical systems to the US Department of Defense and allied nations, is in need of an Ordinance Testing Technician for their DeFuniak Springs, FL facility, to perform test arena preparation, test rig fabrication and set up, and supporting the execution of military grade weapons testing.

The qualified individual is committed to closely following instructions and direction provided by team leaders and fellow Test Technicians. They embrace working outdoors in a closely monitored environment to provide safe operations throughout their day. They are open to learning a unique set of skills that involves hands on construction experience.

Working environment includes regular and closely monitored explosives handling and detonations.


General requirements:

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:00am – 4:30pm
  • Range housekeeping - clean up after each work assignment
  • Oral and written communication skills, such as giving and receiving instructions, and writing
  • Teamwork skills, such as collaborating, cooperating, and resolving conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate and work resolving issues.
  • Work from diagrams and general instructions and specific process sheets to setup and execute work assignments.
  • Familiar with, and can perform operator specified maintenance duties, such as: regular review of reservoir fluid levels, perform simple equipment repairs, and assist in general repairs as requested.
  • May install parts and materials such as sheet metal covering, hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, lubricants, and batteries into machines and mechanisms.
  • Monitor and maintain work area in an organized, safe manner, free of environmental issues.
  • Dexterity and Hand-Eye Coordination – standing, sitting, lying, crawling
  • Building/Construction Knowledge – Ironwork, Plumbing, Demolition, Build and repair of structures, highways, and bridges, Renovations, Framing, experience with building materials, power tools (drills, saws, mechanical hand tools)
  • Proven ability to Read and have basic Math Skills
  • Communication - able to communicate questions, directions, and decisions to their teammates.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills - able to make quick decisions and think on their feet to provide solutions

 

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains an organization's facilities, systems, or equipment.
  • Receives work order requests for facilities maintenance from employees, tenants, customers, or other visitors. 
  • Ensures work is performed in a timely manner, and triages requests to prioritize the most critical repairs. 
  • Inspects and performs preventative maintenance or as-needed repairs on facilities or systems, which may include mechanical or electrical systems, HVAC or other environmental management systems, generators or power management systems, or fire or safety systems.
  • Makes basic repairs and coordinates the work of specialists when more complex repairs are needed. 
  • Schedules maintenance or repairs to minimize disruptions to organizational operations wherever possible.

 

 

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Required Education: Vocational/Technical Training Degree​ Equivalent Combination of Relevent Education & Experience​
  • Preferred Education: Vocational/Technical Training Degree​
  • Discipline/Major: Facilities or Maintenance
  • Years and Area of Experience (required for the role): 2-4 years​ of relevant experience
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to work as part of a team. Problem-solving skills. Technical expertise. Ability to meet deadlines. Attentiveness. Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Manual dexterity. Physical stamina. Vision.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • ​​Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • ​​May be requested to work a different shift.
  • ​​Travel Requirements ​No or very little travel likely.
