Overview

**The hourly rate for this position is $27.15 / hour plus 2nd Shift Differential**

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, is seeking an NC Lathes #2 to join our Saco Operations team. We are about supporting the mission of the warfighter. Our products can be found with every U.S. Military branch with allies around the world. Major Position Responsibilities

  • The NC Lathes #2 operates and maintains set-up on multi-axis numerically controlled (NC) and computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathes machine tools; and may perform minor changeovers and set-ups such as changing programs, tool holders, inserts, collets, etc.
  • Performs various combinations of lathe operations such as turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, contouring, etc. on metal forgings, casting, bar stock, etc.
  • May operate and maintain set up of welding machines, or robots that weld.
  • Follows established company directives, policies, military specifications, quality documents and manufacturing instructions.
  • Searches to and makes appropriate program active.
  • Positions workpiece in fixtures, chucks or collets and secures part.
  • Maintains and corrects, if necessary, workshift and tooling “offsets”.
  • Performs minor set-ups and changeovers on work of a repetitive nature.
  • Turns dials to index cutting tools to specified set point as necessary.
  • Observes metal-cutting action to verify proper metal removal.
  • Compares numerical data displays with specifications on operations sheet.
  • May operate machine on preliminary dry run before machining first part to detect errors in program.
  • Verifies accuracy of machined workpiece against process specifications using fixed gages, microhite, surface plates, etc.
  • Notifies supervision of discrepancies.
  • Practices safety and good housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Perform operator tasks according to the machine’s process maintenance checklist to ensure that the machine is in proper working order, and to record information as instructed.
  • No supervision required as to the mechanics of the job.

 

Basic Qualifications

Education, Training, and/or Certifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or technical college preferred.

Experience

Required:

  • Employee must have basic computer skills and may be required to enter and verify information into written forms or database(s) as appropriate.
  • Average 30 months. Includes over 2 years through 3 years.

Required

Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable of keyboard and control panel functions that control the various machining operations.
  • Knowledgeable of cutting tool wear and resulting effects on workpiece and cutters during discussions with machine operators and engineers.

Skills:

  • Experienced with keyboard and control panel functions that control the various machining operations and CRT display modes.
