General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Continuous Improvement, Sr Manager to join our San Diego Team. This position reports to the General Manager and will have responsibility for process optimization and continuous improvement through data driven problem solving for a line of business or multiple sites. The position will lead cross-functional organizational initiatives and internal improvement projects to successful completion, supporting the General Manager on strategic planning and the quest for operational excellence. This position will provide overall planning and management of company objectives and performance. This position is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the site’s continuous improvement systems.

  • Manages and promotes sustainable CI activity within all departments. Serves as the Subject Matter Expert for Operation Excellence at the site.
  • Sets goals driven from KPIs aligning business objectives and key results (quality, cost reduction, efficiency improvements, manufacturing value enhancement, data integrity, material and information flow) that ensures transparency of delivered benefits to the company.
  • Implement process improvements from prioritized problems to minimize complexities and waste within our operations, increasing capacity per capita while reducing costs.
  • Using data generated from standard work, provide analysis, test hypotheses, develop plans, and drive improvements into sustainable results.
  • Utilize project management tools and practices, as well as A3 problem solving capabilities to prioritize activities, drive a structured business improvement program and ensure that the team members put in practice a project management way of thinking and it becomes embedded in the culture (PDCA, responsibilities and accountabilities, project review discipline, Problem Solving Discipline).
  • Works cross functionally to establish, manage, and enforce the standard operating processes for all operations within the business. Consolidates Continuous Improvement processes and ideas where possible and streamlines them towards one aligned goal. Facilitates individuals or teams through a formal problem-solving methodology and develops a prioritizing system for problem solving initiatives.

Develop and implement a strategy for fostering and improving the business architecture and project management capabilities and behaviors of employees, Managers and Supervisors. This includes coaching, training and driving the tools and capabilities in place to get organizational-wide results for management of projects and initiatives.
  • Leads the site Lean Steering Committee. Interacts as a member of the Leadership Team in developing strategic vision and action plans, ensuring the quality management system is implemented, functioning effectively and continuously improved through coordination with the General Manager.

 

Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering Operations or a related field; Engineering preferred. 
  • Master's degree in these disciplines preferred
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or LEAN Practitioner certification
  • 5-7 years managerial experience
  • 7-9 yrs individual experience in functional area. 

Major Competencies/Skills:

  • LEAN Tool Expert
  • Knowledge of advanced quality tools like FMEA, DOE, QFD, 6-sigma.
  • Basic knowledge of COQ (cost of quality) and how it relates to problem solving. Understanding of Quality Management Systems ISO9000/AS9100.

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience with start ups, such as project planning, and establishing business processes, management systems, and work instructions is desired. This is an exciting opportunity to create the business processes, systems, and culture to stand up a high performing manufacturing operation.

 

Pay Range (USD)

$100,100 - $185,900

Additional Compensation

Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company’s Gain Sharing Program.

PTO, Holiday, and Family Leave
