General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is looking for an experienced Sr. Manufacturing Technology Engineer to join our Lincoln, NE organization. We are expanding rapidly and looking for motivated and creative individuals who want to help support and shape this organization as we grow. The Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer is responsible for driving the automation processes through continuous improvement, gathering accurate data, creating, and updating documentation while assisting with the development and implementation of automated solutions.


GD-OTS provides reliable and affordable composite products to the defense and commercial aerospace markets. With more than 50 years of expertise, General Dynamics designs, develops, manufactures, and tests a full range of composite missile and space structures, including rocket motors, pressure vessels, launch tubes and fuel tanks.

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Increase automation / data collection for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) mills, lathes, and filament winding machines.
  • Create and update clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes including but not limited to operation instructions, electrical schematics, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
  • Support continuous improvement and root cause corrective action efforts by proposing automated solutions to manufacturing challenges and leading the implementation efforts for any selected automated solutions.
  • Assisting maintenance and electronics technicians in troubleshooting automated processes or equipment.
  • Assist with the development of new equipment specifications, supplier selection, quote reviews and technical support through design, installation, and verification activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with some combination of: Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming. Siemens Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and/or Numerical Control Unit (NCU) Programming. Laser and/or Vision Systems. CNC Programming. Drafting Electrical, Piping, and Instrumentation Schematics. Ignition supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system client development and scripting. Programming in Java, Python, or Structured Query Language (SQL). Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Configuration/Industry 4.0 Implementation.
  • Computer Numeric Control (CNC) or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming certification and/or training.
