You, as the latest Principal Design Assurance Specialist member of our team, will provide support in determining the technical approach by acting as a mentor to the overall design group through review of their designs and application of GD&T.  You will also be at the forefront of General Dynamics Model Based Definition and Model Based Enterprise efforts by assisting with opportunities for developing and deploying digital thread and digital twin solutions.

Major Position Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

At a minimum, review and determine the quality of released models and drawings by the following:

  • All model , drawing and interference checks against established standards and checklists have been completed
  • Preferred drawing formats, materials, processes, notes and note precedence are to internal standards have been applied
  • Appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing has been applied IAW industry practices
  • Appropriate tolerance analysis have been completed and documented in support of future reviews
  • Maintain and develop modeling and detailing standards as needed based on current industry and vendor needs
  • Provide technical support, clarification and interpretation of task, code and standards requirements for all discipline design and drafting activities.
  • Assist with implementation and training of any new PDM or PLM packages introduced within the group, assist with evaluation of said software packages in accordance with design group needs
  • Assist in configuration management of models and drawings entering and leaving implemented PDM software.
  • Assist with small scale design tasks including modeling and detailing as necessary
  • Assist in the evaluation and appraisal of designers and their adherence to best practices
  • Proficient in the use of the latest Pro/E CAD Wildfire 4.0 and above, associated CAD file management (Intralink/Windchill) and other applicable hardware and software to perform in position
  • Must be knowledgeable in the latest industry standards as it relates to model based design
  • Able to manage priorities and complete tasks in accordance with project requirements and milestones.
  • Able to discuss technical issues and communicate effectively with engineers, designers, management and other functions.

Basic Qualifications


Highly-motivated, independent, organized, detail-oriented, and strong interpersonal skills Other Desirable: 

  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Demonstrated strong customer (internal and external) focus.
  • ASME GD&T certification, technologist level followed by senior level


Associate’s degree or equivalent in applicable engineering/technical discipline and equivalent experience.

Desired Education:

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering/technical discipline


10+ years of related design experience in progressively responsible assignments; high understanding of basic engineering, design and drafting concepts
