General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Inc. (GD-OTS) is seeking a Principal Integrated Product Team (IPT) Engineer to join our growing office in Huntsville, Alabama.  Come join our incredible team and know that you will be making a difference in the mission of our warfighter.

 

The ideal candidate will report to the engineering manager and serve as an IPT lead. Area of responsibility will be production support for a high volume rocket program.

 

**This position is dual posted for our Huntsville, AL and Williston, VT Operations**

Major Position Responsibilities

 

 

  • Serve as the primary customer interface for a rocket subsystem
  • Lead bi-weekly government/GD IPT meetings
  • Present program status at quarterly Program Management Reviews (PMR)
  • Frequent ad hoc meetings/conversations
  • Technical management of the overall execution of the subsystem elements of the program
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of the program technical objectives and plans
  • Interface with cross-functional team consisting of quality, subcontracts, contracts, configuration management and program management to address program risks and production issues as they arise.
  • Primary responsibility for generating Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Requests for Variance (RFV), and Material Review Boards (MRB) and gathering supporting data to justify them and quantify impacts
  • Lead first article test, first piece inspection and any other validation requirements for changes in supplier, location or production processes including generation of test plans and reports
  • Primary responsibility for ensuring that configuration and process baselines are maintained both internally and at suppliers
  • Engineering technical lead for root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities.
  • Primary responsibility for evaluating any customer initiated changes
  • Adhere to GD-OTS and customer governing program engineering processes
  • Collaboration with the program team, customer and suppliers to ensure that all Statement of Work (SOW) requirements are understood, flowed to suppliers appropriately and ensure compliance.  Monitor supplier performance and progress to ensure on time delivery of hardware and any required test and development activity.
  • Primary risk manager for production of rockets motors and components

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience processing ECPs against government Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
  • Broad knowledge of production manufacturing processes strongly desired, including metal machining and forming, polymer injection molding, coil spring winding, adhesives, and plating and coating methods.
  • Knowledge of environmental test methods.
  • Mechanical design and analysis experience and/or systems engineering and analysis experience.
  • RCCA process experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an applicable engineering, technical, or science discipline, master’s degree desired.
  • 8-10 years project management experience, preferably in the defense industry.
  • Experience with rocket motors and/or energetics desired.
